Jan 16 (Reuters) - Mosaic (MOS.N) , opens new tab said on Friday North American fertilizer demand fell sharply in the fourth quarter, well beyond normal seasonal weakness, pressuring sales volumes and cash flow.
Phosphate shipments in North America were down about 20% from a year earlier, while potash demand was only modestly weaker, the U.S. fertilizer producer said. Its shares fell more than 6% in premarket trading.

Mosaic said challenging market environment "significantly impacted" its fourth-quarter results, with phosphate sales volumes at about 1.3 million tonnes and potash volumes at nearly 2.2 million tonnes.
